Rooihuiskraal – Centurion

The suburb of Rooihuiskraal which is situated to the South of Centurion is one of the more established areas of Centurion with beautiful gardens and plenty of trees. The suburb consists of approximately 2,241 houses and 137 townhouses. The suburb is popular with the middle class as it is very centrally situated in Centurion with the Reds Mall being just around the corner. The type of properties varies and includes houses, townhouses, duets, apartments, vacant land, clusters, guesthouses, security estates and new developments. The freehold stands range in size from 380 sm to 1,581 sm. The price of houses ranges from R600,000 to R1,940,000 (2010) (Average of R1,213,000) whilst the price of townhouses ranges from R480,000 to R800,000 (2010) (Average of R656,000). Vacant stands are available and range in price from R420,000 to R612,000 (2010) (Average R500,000). The property owners in Rooihuiskraal are extremely stable as 75% of the owners have lived in their houses for more than 5 years.  

The suburb is bordered by the R28/N14 to the North,  The Reeds to the West, the Old Johannesburg Road (R101) to the East and Brooklands Lifestyle Estate to the South (Samrand Avenue).

Due to the fact that Rooihuiskraal is one of the older suburbs in Centurion, most of the properties have large well established wooded gardens. Residents prefer Rooihuiskraal for its convenient location, variety of dwellings, tranquil environment and the fact that there is very little building activity in the area.

Shopping Centres in the immediate vicinity include the Reds Mall, Centurion Lifestyle Centre, Centurion Mall, Marylone Mall and the San Ridge Mall. The area also has a number of smaller shopping centres with the usual cafes and convenience stores.

Sports facilities in Rooihuiskraal include ballet, dance, virgin active gym, golf driving range, karate, squash and tennis, whilst the neighbouring suburbs of The Reeds, Wierda Park and Eldoraigne offers many other sports facilities.

Rooihuiskraal is central to a number of schools including Southdown’s College (Private School), Midstream College (Private School), Rooihuiskraal Primary, Uitsig High, Eldoraigne High, Zwartkop High, Bakenkop Primary, Hennopspark Primary, Springvale Primary and Wierda Park Primary. There are also twenty four Nursery Schools and crèches in Rooihuiskraal.

Being an older established suburb, Rooihuiskraal has a total of eight parks and public places, many of which follow the spruit that runs through the middle of Rooihuiskraal. The closest post office is the Rooihuiskraal Post Office situated on Rooihuiskraal Road.  The library is situated in Hofsanger Road. The only Guesthouse is the Condor House B&B, although The Reeds also has three Guest Houses.

Churches in the area include Baptist, Gereformeerde, NG, AGS, Christ is the way, New Life, Methodist, Apostolic, etc. The Unitas hospital is about 6km from Rooihuiskraal, the Highveld Medical Centre about 4km, the Southdown’s medical Centre about 4km and the Medipark medical Centre is in Panorama Road. The Provincial clinic is situated in Tiptol Road.

Rooihuiskraal also offers easy access to the N1 and N14, for commuters travelling by car to either Pretoria, Midrand, Kempton Park, Johannesburg, Krugersdorp, OR Tambo International Airport as well as Lanseria Airport.

The closest police station is the Wierda Bridge Police Station situated in Valhalla, or the Lyttelton Police station situated in Lyttelton.
